ISQ- Instituto de Soldadura e Qualidade, Portugal Coordinator: Geonardo Ltd., Hungary GEONARDO Ltd is a fast growing and well-reputed Hungarian environmental consulting enterprise working at the forefront of technology in mapping of geothermal potential, natural resources management, applied remote sensing and Geographical Information Systems development. The company is interested in the assessment of the utilization of different renewable energy resources in Hungary. In addition to traditional engineering consulting GEONARDO participates in a variety of EU-funded research projects, and the company is also active in education and training in various environmental fields. Loránd Eötvös University, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Deparment of Geophysics, Hungary On the Faculty of Science besides a comprehensive educational curriculum, there is a vigorous program of research in all departments. The Faculty itself is thus a major national scientific resource. The Department of Geophysics was founded in 1951 and recently is the member of University’s Institute of Environmental Physics. We are working close together with the Environmental Physics Research Group of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences residing also on the Department. Our research and education activity includes both, the physics of the Earth and the applied geophysics. In applied geophysics we have laid special emphasis on environmental issues a decade since. Usually we have 3-6 postgraduate students involved in our scientific programs and many of our graduate students had defended PhD theses successfully in eminent universities of the EU-countries and the USA. The Department has widespread international relationships and has taken part in many cooperation projects. Innoterm–Energetics, Environment Protection & Development Ltd., Hungary Innoterm. is a steadily growing Hungarian engineering office and consultancy founded in 1989 in Budapest as one of the first private companies after the change of Regime. Its main fields of actions include the development and the implementation of environmental- and user-friendly energy supply systems (e.g. biomass fired boilers and mini power plants), herewith trying to contribute to the sustainable development by optimal utilisation of the available energy recourses. Bluewaters–Project Development and Environmental Engineering, Austria Bluewaters is a young company working in the field of project development, project management and environmental engineering. When we work on a project, we are always following certain principles: A strong customer orientation, the principle of least cost planning and the search for a sustainable, environmentally friendly and economical beneficial solution. Our experts have academic and post-graduate qualifications in various technical areas (e.g. Environmental Engineering, Landscape Planning, Chemistry, Agricultural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Hydrogeology, Hydrobiology and Water Management). Enex Ltd is a young but fast growing Icelandic enterprise through which is channelled the export drive of Iceland’s four largest power utilities, the Iceland Drilling Company, the Orkustofnun GeoScience Division (ROS) and the major Engineering Consulting Companies of Iceland. ROS has five decades of experience in geothermal exploration and development services; remote monitoring of natural resources and resource management, and Geographical Information Systems development and application in resource mapping. In addition ROS provides geoscientific services to geothermal enterprises and drilling companies. It undertakes moreover specially tailored geothermal training courses, and formal training in the field of geothermal energy and environmental issues for the United Nations University and various others. Orkustofnun and ROS have participated in a variety of EU-funded projects, and activities such as the OPET, SAVE etc. The affiliated company of ENEX in Hungary is ENEX GEOTERMIA. AQUAPLUS Well-boring, Well-repairing and Hydraulic Engineering Ltd., was established on 15th September 1989. Its members are natural persons, who have been previously working in the field of water drilling and maintenance demanding high professional requirements. MAIN ACTIVITIES:
ISQ, Instituto de Soldadura e Qualidade, is a private, non-profit making independent research centre and the largest inspection company in Portugal with a staff of about 500. ISQ was founded in 1965 and has been involved in all major engineering projects in Portugal and other European countries and also in Africa, Latin America and Asia. ISQ developed expertise in several fields of engineering and also environmental sciences through these years. ISQ has also a considerable experience in participation and management of European R&D projects, namely in BRITE/EURAM programme, among other programmes such as SPRINT, ESPRIT, COMMETT, ECSC, NATO, SAVE, CRAFT, SMT etc. ISQ is recognised as a reference institution in Portugal, when the Environmental Sciences are concerned having more than 10 years of active work in this area supporting effectively the industry. Actually ISQ has about 40 people working in this area only, has a Chemical and Environmental Laboratory agreed to the Portuguese State (according ISO Norm 45001) being the reference laboratory for air by appointment to the Ministry of the Environment, is recognised by the Ministry of Industry as Competence Centre for Energy and Environment and was recently recognised as a fundamental R&D centre for the development of Portugal. ISQ's Environment, Energy and Safety Division is accredited by the Portuguese Government according ISO Norm 14001. ISQ activities are aimed at providing industrial oriented technology development, services and training in the field of materials testing and characterization, failure analysis, joining techniques and qualification, non destructive evaluation, quality control, robotics, automation and instrumentation for related process control and high power beam (laser, electron beam and water jet) technology for cutting and joining applications.
